Stress is a major problem for nearly all of us and we have to pay attention to how it is affecting us or we may find ourselves with major health issues. The causes of stress are simple. A feeling of loss of control and feeling unable to meet the challenges that life throws at us. These days, between work, home, kids and bills we have so much thrown at us and this is why so many of us struggle with stress.

Ways to deal with stress include strategies that help us to take our minds away from the issues we are concerned about and finding ways to relax the body. Many people spend lots of money on out-of-home stress reduction activities. But there are things you can do at home that are proven effective at reducing your stress. Here is a list of some of the most effective.

Soaking

When we are children our parents most often give us baths in bathtubs and we forget how soothing it was when they did.  The effectiveness of soaking at relieving stress never went away, we simply stopped taking soothing baths. Today there has been a resurgence in the use of bathtubs and it is probably related to its use as a stress reducer. Free-standing baths are the ideal way to both relax tense muscles and wash your cares away, both of which reduce stress. You can also include bathroom accessories like a nice scrub brush, candles, and an essential oil to being in sights and smells that relax and ease your mind. Do this just one and your bathroom will become your favorite room in the house and you will be reminded how much you love being in the tub.

Meditation

There is nothing simpler than meditation for reducing stress. It is a simple endeavor that entails you sitting in a quiet slightly dark room and allowing your mind to clear. The aim is to train yourself at will to simply not think of anything. Practitioners report that stress simply melts away quickly when you become proficient at meditating. You can do it in nearly any room of your home and at any time of the day. Once you get good at it small amounts of time meditating can be very effective. Even a ten minute meditation session can bring peace and calm.

Have a Sleep-in Day

Part of the reason that so many people are so stressed out so often is because they are simply exhausted. Our schedules today are so full and even when you are not doing anything you experience guilt form standing still. As a result, good sleep is hard to come by which of course contributes to your stress. Plan a day of doing nothing. Cancel any appointments, turn off the phone, tell your spouse that you are unavailable for kids or anything else and simply stay in bed and binge watch movies.
